Welcome to the Friends of St. Paul Hockey.
 

Friends of Saint Paul Hockey is a 501 c(3) non profit that is motivated to minimize financial barriers so hockey can become sustainable and a continued tradition in Saint Paul. The group has a working board, with an advisory board in place to provide support and visibility. Each of the four independent youth hockey associations are also involved (Edgcumbe, Highland/Central, Johnson/Como, and Langford) with individuals being identified to participate.

Our goals are aggressive, and our hopes are high. It is our intention to raise real money to minimize or eliminate any financial barrier for youth that want to play hockey and live in Saint Paul . We also improved want access to increase participation, that may include another outdoor rink geographically placed where there is a void. It may also include purchasing indoor ice to allow for increased "open hockey time", or increased training that is common thread in the suburbs. These discussions are initial but carry intent, as we are very concerned that we are seeing one of our Saint Paul traditions evaporate before our eyes. What was once a treasured blue collar sport, is fast becoming a sport for only the affluent. Long term this will not be a good fit, nor embraced by our Saint Paul residents. Rapid, decisive, and thoughtful approaches that are inclusive of all interested parties will be implemented as funds are attained.

We envision Ramsey County being a vital partner as we move forward, and look forward to having a presence with our board, mission, and positive outcomes. We are not interested in creating a new association in Saint Paul, but bolstering the product in place with a passionate hockey community. We understand and are grateful of the influence of Mighty Kids has had in past years and are interested in supporting the program along with the four existing associations moving forward.
